About
Welcome to El Comal Restaurant, your go-to spot for authentic New Mexican cuisine nestled in the heart of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Located at 3571 Cerrillos Rd, this unassuming eatery may not boast fancy decor, but it more than makes up for it with its flavorful offerings and heartfelt service. Whether you're a local or just passing through, El Comal is a culinary gem that embodies the spirit of New Mexico.
The first thing you might notice as you step inside is the warm, inviting atmosphere. Customers have described El Comal as a home away from home, a sentiment echoed in reviews that highlight the restaurant's cleanliness and hospitality. As one satisfied diner, Alex G., noted, "the food gives me an at-home feeling," reminiscent of meals lovingly prepared by grandma.
Now, let’s talk food. The star of the show here is undoubtedly the authentic New Mexican dishes that come adorned with vibrant red and green chili sauces. Patrons often emphasize the quality of these sauces as a benchmark for judging other establishments. Brent Cothran raved about El Comal's green chile fix, while Gus Fajardo fell in love with the shredded beef sopapilla, perfectly complemented by both red and green chilis. The combination of flavors is nothing short of magnificent!
The menu is packed with enticing options, from the scrumptious Carne Adovada to the hearty Navajo Taco Salad, served on fry bread. Adaire Krementz particularly enjoyed the rich flavors of the Carne Adovada Sopapilla, served alongside freshly made tortillas and sopapillas, which are a delight when drizzled with honey—an added touch that leaves a lasting impression.
Although some may be deterred by its outward appearance—somewhat shabby and located next to a smoke shop—those who venture in are rewarded with exceptional food and service. As Jim Egan pointed out, "don’t judge a restaurant by its outside appearance!" The magic truly lies within, where the culinary traditions of New Mexico come alive on your plate.
If you find yourself in Santa Fe craving exquisite flavors and a taste of culture, make your way to El Comal Restaurant—where every meal is a celebration of New Mexico’s vibrant culinary heritage. Experience the warmth, flavor, and authenticity that keep diners coming back time after time.
“ I absolutely love this place. Every time I travel out to New Mexico, I have to stop and grab a bite to eat. The establishment is always clean, the service is quick, and the food gives me an at home feeling the plate reaches my table. Like when grandma handing you a meal she prepared for you. The red and green sauce is base standard that I judge other New Mexican eateries. Flavorful with a nice kick. Enchiladas are always on my list to get here, especially the blue corn tortilla ones. If you're looking for authentic New Mexican food, this should be on your list. This is a hidden gem of the Santa Fe area. Also don't forget to look at the whiteboard for special you won't see in the menu. My pictures are of the Combo Grande, a half eaten enchilada (couldn't resist before taking a picture ), and a stuff sopaipilla de chicharron. ”
“ If you want authentic New Mexican food, this is the place. The restaurant is not fancy, but it is clean and the waitress was friendly. I will be back when I am in the area. The food is one of the best for your green chile fix. ”
“ El Comal (flat iron, griddle) is in a very unassuming strip center. Not much to look at from the outside and has a very homey low key decor. The food is authentic New Mexico and it is simply magnificent! We were passing thru Santa Fe and wanted to try New Mexico dishes and chose this spot for its reviews we've read. So glad we did. I had the shredded beef sopapilla with both red and green chili sauce (Santa Fe Christmas style), amazing. If in the area, please stop by and try it yourself! ”
“ Had a great dinner tonight. The staff was welcoming and the food was wonderful. Look no further if you're looking for solid New Mexican food! I had the Carne Adovada and it was perfectly prepared! ”
“ My husband and I are Tucson peeps and we have lived in Colorado since 2014. So trying to find authentic Mexican food has been hard. We are in New Mexico for my business and was starving and cold. I searched for white menudo which is a Tucson thing. This place came up. We drove there and like the other reviews it’s kinda in a scary place and the outside looks run down. But inside your greeted with a warm welcome. The service was outstanding and the place is super clean! The food was heavenly and so good! We will be back! ”
